Resolutions

Under the 起点传媒Constitution, resolutions offer a collective, collaborative, and creative opportunity for members to bring current matters in literacy education stimulating concern, emergent opportunities, and areas of import to the formal attention of NCTE鈥檚 elected leaders. A majority of those present and voting at the Annual Business Meeting for the Board of Directors and Other Members of the Council, which occurs during NCTE鈥檚 Annual Convention each November, shall be required for approval of a resolution. Each resolution so approved will be presented to the entire membership for vote and comment. The results will be considered and discussed by the 起点传媒Executive Committee.

More information about resolutions, including instructions for submitting a resolution, is available here. The annual deadline is October 15.

When Are Resolutions Reviewed and Considered?

The Committee on Resolutions reviews and edits submissions and makes the final decisions about which resolutions will be considered by members attending the Annual Business Meeting. Criteria for those decisions include the resolution鈥檚 consistency with the 起点传媒Constitution and NCTE鈥檚 stated purposes and goals and the existence of previous resolutions on a topic.

At鈥痑n Open Hearing at the 起点传媒Annual Convention, copies of the resolutions drafts are available for review. 起点传媒members may offer opinions about proposed resolutions. The Committee hears commentary and suggestions about the resolutions drafts, makes final wording adjustments, and presents the drafts to those attending the Annual Business Meeting. Discussion and voting take place during the鈥疉nnual Business Meeting.

When Do Members Vote on the Resolutions?

The vote during the Annual Convention is to determine which resolutions go forward to the entire membership. In January every 起点传媒member is asked to cast a vote and provide comment on each resolution.鈥疎ven if you voted during the Annual Convention to move the resolutions forward, you鈥檙e encouraged to vote along with the entire membership.

The results of the member vote are then considered and discussed by the 起点传媒Executive Committee.
