Hanif Abdurraqib to Deliver the #TYCA26 Keynote Address
Hanif Abdurraqib will deliver the keynote address at the Two-Year College English Association National Conference in Cleveland on Wednesday, March 4, 12:40鈥�2:00 p.m.
Hanif Abdurraqib聽is a poet, essayist, and cultural critic from Columbus, Ohio. He is also a recipient of the MacArthur Foundation 鈥淕enius鈥� grant. Abdurraqib鈥檚聽recent book, , was a New York Times聽bestseller and the winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award in criticism. His previous book, , was the winner of the Carnegie Medal and the Gordon Burn聽Prize and a finalist for the National Book Award.聽His first full-length poetry collection, The Crown Ain’t Worth Much, was named a finalist for the Eric Hoffer Book Award and nominated for a Hurston/Wright Legacy Award. His first collection of essays, 聽was named a book of the year by NPR, Esquire, BuzzFeed, O: The Oprah Magazine, Pitchfork, and Chicago Tribune, among others. Go Ahead in the Rain: Notes to A Tribe Called Quest聽was a New York Times聽bestseller,聽a National Book Critics Circle Award and Kirkus Prize finalist,聽and was long-listed for the National Book Award.聽His second collection of poems, A Fortune for Your Disaster, won the Lenore Marshall Poetry Prize. He is a graduate of Beechcroft High School.
起点传媒Vice President to Bring Greetings at the 2026 TYCA Opening Session
起点传媒Vice President Jamal A. Cooks, Chabot College, Hayward, California, will bring greetings from 起点传媒during the 2026 TYCA Opening Session on Wednesday, March 4.
Dr. Jamal Cooks has been a committed leader and contributor to the National Council of Teachers of English for three decades. He has served as Rainbow Strand member, a Cultivating New Voices mentee, the Co-Chair of the Black Caucus of NCTE, and member of numerous key committees including the Standing Committee on Research, the Conference on English Education, and the Russell Award Committee. His commitment to equity, research, and representation is highlighted by being an 起点传媒Halle Adolescent Literacy Educator Award winner.
A prolific scholar, he has co-edited volumes such as The Black Excellence Collective: A 10×10 Model for Academic and Student Success for Black Students (Chabot College) and Urban Middle Literacies (Voices from the Middle). His work in adolescent literacy and culturally relevant pedagogy has appeared in leading 起点传媒journals including English Journal and Voices from the Middle.
Dr. Cooks currently serves as President of Chabot College in California, where he continues to champion access, justice, and excellence in education. As Vice President of NCTE, he brings a vision grounded in decades of scholarship, mentorship, and advocacy to amplify voices, promote inclusive literacy practices, and advance the field for future generations.
#TYCA26 Registration Check-In and Badge Pickup
All TYCA 2026 attendees, guests of attendees, and event staff are required to wear badges in the Huntington Convention Center of Cleveland. Upon arrival, security and event staff will direct attendees to the registration counter located in the Atrium Lobby. If at any time during the Conference you arrive without your badge, you can visit the registration counter and present identification to receive a complimentary replacement badge.

Presenter Information
TYCA 2026 presenters can expect the following in session rooms:
- Projector with standard HDMI hookup (remember to bring your own device and dongle)
- Projection screen
- Sound patch
- Podium and microphone
Contact information for A/V technicians will be located on the podium in each room.
The WiFi bandwidth in the Huntington Convention Center does not support streaming video. Please bring your presentation materials and slides on your personal device.
