Budget meetings are on the minds of politicians in Iowa, and budget cuts are worrying those involved in higher education.聽 Iowa could be facing up to $2.5 million in budget cuts this fiscal year.聽 In 2017, Iowa incurred a $350 million budget shortage, which was the impetus for budget cuts.聽 This budget shortage is followed by a projected $34.7 million shortfall in the current budget year (see ).聽 31% of institutions such as Iowa State University鈥檚 budget is dependent upon the state.聽 This funding has been reduced, including research centers at Iowa State that saw a reduction by $1.8 million dollars.
