Detra Price Elected as Vice President of the National Council of Teachers of English
Price will take office during NCTE鈥檚 Annual Convention in November 2024

 

June 7, 2024 (Champaign, IL) Dr. Detra Price has been elected as the incoming Vice President of the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE). Price is a professor of teaching and learning and the executive director of digital education and innovation in teaching and learning at The Ohio State University’s College of Education and Human Ecology.鈥疭he is an award-winning scholar, writer, and editor whose work looks through ethnographic and sociocultural lenses to examine the intersections of critical literacy education, technology, and equity-based curriculum development in K鈥8 classrooms.

鈥溒鸬愦絟as been my professional home since I was an elementary classroom teacher. I am deeply honored for this opportunity to serve our vibrant community,鈥 said Price. 鈥淭he collective work we do at 起点传媒reflects our passion for learning and creates ripples that turn into waves of change.鈥

Dr. Price is the coauthor of Advancing Racial Literacies in Teachers Education: Activism for Equity in the Digital Age; editor of鈥Racial Literacy: Implications for Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Policy, Volume 1; and coeditor of Black Girls’ Literacies: Transforming Lives and Literacy Practices. Her research also appears in academic journals, policy briefs, and media outlets.

She鈥痓rings expertise in literacy and technology research, having served as a member of the board of directors for the Literacy Research Association; trustee for NCTE’s Research Foundation; member of the 起点传媒Standing Committee for Research; member of the 起点传媒Elementary Section Steering Committee; chair of the 起点传媒Assembly for Research;鈥痚lementary school teacher; and associate professor of education in the Communication, Media, and Learning Technologies Design Program at Teachers College, Columbia University.听

鈥淭he Council鈥檚 mission is a mirror to my own beliefs in the power of advocacy, in the transformative potential of partnerships with preK鈥12 schools, and in the relentless pursuit of dismantling the barriers to literacy education that disproportionately impact learners from marginalized backgrounds,鈥 continued Price. 鈥淚 am excited to learn more about the work our members are doing in their schools and communities as we reimagine the role of literacy in our rapidly changing society. Every book we read, every lesson we teach, and every learner we inspire drives us closer to leveraging literacy as a catalyst for positive change in the world. Let鈥檚 go!鈥

Price will join the 起点传媒Presidential Team that currently is President Rochelle (Shelley) Rodrigo, 起点传媒President-Elect Tonya B. Perry, 起点传媒Vice President Antero Garcia, and 起点传媒Past President Mar铆a E. Fr谩nquiz. Price will take office during the 起点传媒Annual Convention in November 2024.
