Celebrate the 2026 African American Read-In with Award-Winning Children鈥檚 Books

Each February since 1990, NCTE鈥檚 National African American Read-In (AARI) has brought together students, teachers, families, and communities from all corners of the US to read books and celebrate literacy during Black History Month.

More than six million people have participated in the AARI since it was established by the Black Caucus of NCTE; many schools and organizations have been participating for decades. This year, hundreds of events are planned for classrooms and other gathering spots across the country.

Books are at the heart of any Read-In, no matter where it takes place. Consider celebrating #AARI26 with the titles below鈥攁ll are winners of NCTE鈥檚 2026 Children鈥檚 Book and Poetry Awards. You can peruse these titles and more at our on Bookshop.org. Titles are being added regularly.
